June/July Reading List Choices: Read At Least One from the Following List

(click each title for more information):

The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Fencing. Fighting. True love. Strong hate. Harsh revenge. A few giants. Bad men. Good men. Beautiful women. Beasts. Swell escapes. Terrible captures. Death. Lies. Truth. Miracles. …And a little kissing.

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion*. Meet R, a smart, likable main character who also happens to be a zombie. R may shuffle and moan on the outside, but he’s not a bad guy. In fact, inside he’s clever, funny, and fun…he just can’t express it on the outside. Oh, and he eats human brains. But when R meets a girl he wants to protect rather than eat, he wonders…can zombies live happily ever after? *Some mature content. Reader discretion advised.

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. Sophie is the eldest of three daughters, destined to fail miserably should she ever leave home to seek her fortune. But when she unwittingly finds herself under a witch’s curse that transforms her into an old lady, her only chance at breaking it lies in the ever-moving castle in the hills: the Wizard Howl’s castle. To untangle the spell, Sophie must handle heartless Howl, strike a bargain with a fire demon, and meet the Witch of the Waste head-on. Along the way, she discovers that there’s more to Howl—and herself—than meets the eye.

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken**. A mysterious plague wiped out America’s children, and the few survivors came through it…changed. Ruby and others like her have developed frightening abilities they can’t control. Frightening enough to get her locked up in a brutal “rehabilitation camp.” Now sixteen, Ruby hides how dangerous she really is. When she joins a group of other camp escapees, their leader, brave Liam, falls for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, she can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living. **Movie released in August, 2018; unofficial group trip planned; you must arrange your own ride to and from theater; date TBA.
